LTCF learning by distance is fast, convenient, tailored and effective
The new course design helps trainees become fully competent more quickly and easily. Dedicated training time is reduced from 3 days to 2 days, and there is no time lost to travel as the course can be completed from your workplace. It now takes only 6 weeks (previously 8) for trainees to become fully competent. Self-directed and directed modules enable trainees to work independently and review materials, as well as discuss and apply what they’ve learnt in educator-led sessions.

The redesigned course structure
The course includes modules of self-directed learning, educator-directed learning and workplace-based learning through completion of resident assessments. Between the three educator-directed modules delivered via Zoom, trainees complete self-directed learning modules independently, using our eLearning system. Our interRAI educators remain available to provide support during the self directed modules. Trainees also complete online multi-choice exams. All parts of the course including the resident assessments and the online exams, must be completed within six weeks of starting the course.

Trainee considerations
To enable trainees to successfully complete this course, they will need:
- a quiet space with a computer (or laptop) that has sound
- a webcam and internet access with sufficient speed for video calling, as educators deliver course content via Zoom
- a supervising buddy or learning partner (if possible). This person must be LTCF-competent, and available to answer questions and provide support during training.

Self-directed module must be completed in advance
Trainees must complete the first module of the online self-directed learning by noon of the business day before the directed learning begins. The course is structured so that interRAI educators can build on this knowledge during the Zoom sessions. For this reason, trainees who don’t complete the first self-directed module by the deadline, are withdrawn from the course, and rescheduled for another date.

Support for learning
Our staff are here to provide support and advice in the transition to distance learning in your facility. In strictly limited circumstances, we may be able to provide in-person training for your staff. Please contact us to talk through your options.
