Temporary software change for LTCF

Unnecessary duplicate records are being created for Long Term Care Facilities (LTCF) assessments.

To prevent duplicate records being created we have made a temporary software change for LTCF assessments.

This means assessors cannot use the 'Add a New Resident' option under Common Tasks bar.

To find out more look on the NEWS page on the interRAI website here or email

One DHB host for interRAI software next year

Next year interRAI software will be consolidated into one national host site at Canterbury DHB. Currently interRAI software is hosted by two DHBs, Canterbury DHB and Taranaki DHB. We anticipate this service change will have minimal impact on you. We will tell you more about it next year.

Complete your draft or incomplete assessments

Please identify your draft or incomplete assessments. Complete them, or discontinue them.
By next February you will need to have completed or discontinued all your draft or incomplete assessments older than 90 days after the Assessment Reference Date (ARD).

In February 2020 all draft or incomplete assessments will be closed off and discontinued.

We need to reduce the number of incomplete and draft assessments in the system. We want to help you complete assessments in a timely way, maintain the high quality of our data, align with national guidelines, and reduce the number of migration and transfer errors ready for when we move to one host site.

To find draft assessments run the Incomplete Assessments Report for your organisation from the Common Tasks menu. Draft assessments will be displayed and identified.

More information here:

We will report all draft and incomplete assessments to DHBs and long term care facilities in January 2020.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Want to be involved in a trial of the palliative care assessment?

We are looking for  ARC facilities interested in piloting a Palliative Care assessment.

The interRAI Palliative Care assessessment will be an alternative to the Long Term Care Facility assessment for palliative residents. Facilities anywhere in New Zealand can participate in the trial which can be run across all levels of care.

Guidance will be provided regarding when to use the palliative assessment.

Registered nurses involved in the pilot will be offered a two hour training course and need to:
  • be a competent Long Term Care Facility (LTCF) assessor
  • have completed the Level One Advance Care Plan certificate, either in-house, through a hospice, DHB, or online at:
Interested in participating, or want to know more? Contact interRAI Services by 9 December 2019 via email to

Put "PC Pilot" in the Subject line. Provide your name, facility name, levels of care you provide, and state how many nurses would be available to join the pilot. The pilot will run for six months.

Quality Indicators updated for LTCF
