Did you know that 2020 is the International Year of the Nurse?

There are more than 56,000 nurses in the health workforce, making a difference every day to the lives of all New Zealanders.

2020 has been endorsed by the World Health Organisation as the International Year of the Nurse, coinciding with the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, one of the founders of modern nursing.

As many of you, and many of the health professionals interRAI works with are nurses, it's appropriate we take this opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous dedication and commitment of the nursing profession.

You can find out more about the International Year of the Nurse here.
Do you know why we find nursing rewarding?  Because we love touching lives and making a difference!

Kotahi update - moving from two host sites to one

interRAI has a great team on board for this project, and we're now fully into the development stage where we are working our way through the data to ensure the two hosts merge smoothly.

This project is about streamlining our software service so that it can be hosted at one location (Canterbury), instead of two (Canterbury and Taranaki). This means a simpler, standardised system with a single database and sign-on.

We are aiming for a Go-Live date of early May 2020 and we are on target for that.

Some things you need to know if you are currently on the Central Host:

Your password will be reset automatically. (It is important you know the answers to your security questions, as we will be encouraging you to use the 'Forgot Password' feature to change your password.)

If you work with the mobile application software 'Check-in, Check-out' (CICO), when we merge the databases you will need to update your CICO software with a special script.

You will need a Canterbury client-side certificate to be able to access the merged database.

We will keep you up to date with all the details in coming weeks about how to get the new certificate and download the CICO software.

Let's talk about ageing

interRAI will be at Age Concern's 'Vision for Ageing in Aotearoa' conference at Te Papa, 6-7 April 2020. The conference delves into subjects as diverse as climate change, older workers and housing design, through to falls prevention and organ donation.

Dr Brigette Meehan, Principal Advisor, interRAI Services will speak about equity and the value from the interRAI comprehensive clinical assessment for policy development.

Come and see the interRAI stand and be part of the conversation about ageing in Aotearoa.

When did you last log in?

Just a friendly reminder that if you have not logged into interRAI software for at least six months your account will be deactivated.

It is important that we keep our client data safe; that is why we have a software protocol that requires all unused accounts to be made inactive.

Please contact us if you have any concerns. If you have staff on extended leave please let us know so their accounts can be temporarily disabled and noted, without anyone being disadvantaged.

Two new outcome scales for interRAI Visualisation Tool

The interRAI Visualisation Tool now has two new outcome scales for Home Care Assessment - CPS2 (Cognitive Performance Scale 2) and DIVERT (Detection of Indicators and Vulnerabilities for Emergency Room Trips).

CPS2 is a 0-8 scale that describes the cognitive status of an individual and is designed to complement the CPS (Cognitive Performance Scale). The graph below shows the different levels of cognitive impairment by age band for Home Care assessments completed between July and December 2019.

DIVERT can be used by assessors to identify clients that need a special plan of care to prevent unplanned Emergency Department visits. The graph below shows the DIVERT scale by age band. The higher the score, the greater the risk for unplanned ED visits within six months.

For more information about the new scales refer to the User Guide.
